US information sector productivity rises 13.7%

The US information sector’s labor productivity grew 13.7% in the year to the second quarter of 2026, against 2.2% for the economy as a whole, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, which describes the figures as possibly early signs of AI-driven productivity gains. Over a longer window, from late 2022 to mid-2026, an HRD analysis of BEA and BLS data finds that the sector’s real output rose 35% while its payroll employment fell 10%. EPB Research puts the growth in output per worker across the information, professional services and finance industries at about 5% a year since the end of 2022.

NHS England adds 1 million MRI scans with AI

NHS England has successfully implemented AI-powered acceleration software across more than half of its compatible MRI scanners. The deployment has generated the capacity for an estimated one million additional patient scans per year. This expansion is part of a broader effort to increase diagnostic capabilities, which also saw 125 new CT and MRI scanners installed between March 2024 and March 2026. The integration of AI technology is directly contributing to increased operational efficiency and patient access within the national healthcare system.

Individual AI gains fail to lift organisations

While individuals are seeing significant benefits from AI tools, the impact at an organizational level is less clear. A survey of over 9,500 people by Miro across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific found that 83% of individuals reported improved productivity. However, only 56% observed an improvement in the quality of their output. Moreover, 55% of respondents cited an increase in “AI slop,” or low-quality output that leads to rework, highlighting a growing challenge in translating individual efficiency gains into broader, company-wide value.
